hey guys, quick question,

does toyota mention anything in the owners manual about the storing of luggage in the vehicle?

by chance do they say anything about putting luggage behind the seats if all other storage spaces are taken?

Can't see why you couldn't unless it's excessively heavy. I put small/light things behind the seats all the time.

It ain't over until you've exceeded the GVM!

As for the frunk, on the contrary, I try to use either the passenger footwell or the frunk first because it promotes a nose-heavy attitude, which is good.

Placing heavy things in the rear boot/trunk without balancing it out with heavy things in the frunk is asking for trouble. Our cars have a heavy rearward weight bias already, and making the rear bias even greater can be detrimental to safe handling.

To get even more safety conscious, there shouldn't be anything "loose" in the cabin that can become a dangerous projectile due to size/weight/material (arguably, my laptop in the above photo falls into the above category) in the event of a crash.

Edit: Incidentally, I have never had anything in the frunk or boot/trunk be damaged by water or other crap.

I'd like a show of hands on this.. Both of my Mr-2s have had leaking boot's

I havent had a leaking frunk, however it dosent seem like a good place for storage considering the BMC, coolant lines, spare tire and tools are there..

I put all my spare fluids in the frunk as well

I've had water leaking into the rear luggage compartment. I'm not sure where its coming from, I originally thought it was the taillight gaskets, but I replaced them and I'm not sure whether or not it fixed the problem. I remove everything from the RLC (including the carpetting and stuff) and removed the drain plugs (in the sides) and the problem has been significantly reduced.
Someone I spoke with suggested it may have been leaking through the seams under the bumper, but I haven't messed with it.

I occasionally store stuff in the RLC but it gets absurdly hot especially with the carpeting removed (probably helps moisture to evaporate though). I rarely store it in the frunk. The frunk scares me a bit because I don't want stuff flying around in there, seems very dangerous. All in all, the MR2 really sucks bad for transporting stuff.

I dunno. With the plastic cover in place, the only "important" thing in the frunk that's exposed to your luggage, and vice versa, is the brake fluid reservoir. I'll agree that the frunk is a bit "icky" in principle because of its proximity to the windscreen washer fluid, brake fluid reservoir, air conditioning. Anything I put in there is usually in a backpack or plastic bag.

But, I can't think of any way to have items flying around in the frunk and damaging the brake system or aircon, short of having a spectacular rollover or crash - at which point you don't need the brakes or aircon anymore. On a similar note, I could also care less about my food shopping if the brake system inexplicably bursts and floods the frunk with brakefluid, leaving me without brakes at speed.

For me, this fits into the same category of non-concern as the fueltank's presence between the driver and passenger (even if it's below the chassis floorpan):
Nervous passenger: "What happens if we're in a car accident and the fueltank ruptures?"
Spots: "Well, for something to rupture the fueltank, it has to pass through us first. At that point, leaking fuel isn't going to be one of my major concerns."

thats one of the things that bothers me about putting sensitive stuff back there. electronics.. explosives.. etc :thumbup
